This week on Monday we went to the Concussion Conference in Missouri. It was really interesting to find out and learn more about something that is so present in sports injuries today. I didn’t know much about how concussions really effected someone and the recovery. I finally go to understand the surface of how a concussion will change someones life. All and all, the conference was a great thing to go to.
On Tuesday we had the Therapeutic Communications SIM Lab. It was a good reinforcement of the information from last semester. My group used me as an aid, and kept asking me how to do stuff, but even in the live patient they let me take over. It was a great experience, and it is a good skill for a future in healthcare.
Wednesday we did a Cerner workshop, and learned how to use the goniometer. It was interesting to see how to work the “protractor-like” device properly. After that we took the Ankle Practical Exam, and it went really well. I made sure I studied and practiced on my brother just so it would go smoothly.
On Thursday we had medical terminology where it was the cardiovascular system. Lance, Aliana, and Ashley liked my idea for an improve-to Match Maker game. It was hard because we didn’t exactly plan how we were going to sort the card. It ended up going well, and everyone contributed. After that we had Cardio-thoraic Surgical Intensive Care Unit Speaker come in. It was really interesting to find out about that type of nursing, and I would consider going into it now.
